Ulduar-10 Flame Leviathan Guide
Ulduar is out now and its time to start going over the new boss strats. Ulduar bosses will be much more difficult than the Naxx bosses, so make sure you read up on them and you’re prepared and geared for the encounters.
The first boss in Ulduar is a vehicle fight. It sounds really confusing but each person actually only has one or two things to worry about. In 10-man, the 3 vehicles are:
2 Siege Engines - These do dps and interrupt casts, moves slowly
2 Demolishers - Main damage dealers, moves slowly
2 Choppers - Support vehicle with some dps, moves very fast
To start, 6 people will get in the driver seats of each of the six vehicles. One healer will get in the passenger seat of a demolisher. A dps will get in the passenger seat of the other demolisher. The last 2 people will get in the gunner seats of the Siege Engines (make sure you’re in the gunner seat and not the passenger seat). The first phase is a gauntlet, the point of which is to destroy 4 towers.
Here is what each person does in PHASE 1:
Siege Engine Drivers - Use Ram to damage enemies in front of you. Use ElectroShock to interrupt the Ground Slam stun that the Iron Colussus mobs do (7 second cast). Use Ram on the towers to destroy them.
Siege Engine Gunners - Use the Anti-air rocket to shoot the choppers out of the air. Use Cannon to damage other enemies.
Demolisher Driver - Use Hurl Boulder and Ram to damage enemies. Run from the Iron Colussus mobs when they Ground slam to avoid the damage.
Demolisher Passenger - Use Grab Crate to pick up the Pyrite that falls to the ground when the choppers in the air die (pick up 5). Use Cannon to damage enemies.
Chopper Driver - Use Sonic Horn to damage enemies. Run from the Iron Colusses mobs when they Ground slam to avoid the damage.
There is a repair area near the end of the gauntlet. Make sure to repair before the last pack of mobs is pulled. After repairing, kill the last group of mobs. Then Flame Leviathan will be engaged.
Follow these steps for PHASE 2:
- Chopper Drivers drop tar near the door using the Tar ability and then continue to drop Tar along the path.
- Demolisher Drivers hurl Boulders at the tar, igniting it.
- The Flame Leviathan will target a Siege Engine or Demolisher and give chase. The targeted Driver runs away. Steam Engines use the Steam Rush ability to get away faster, following the Tar path. Tar will slow down Flame Leviathan and deal damage when ignited.
- Meanwhile, the other Siege Engine Driver follows behind the Flame Leviathan, using Ram to damage him and ElectroShock to interrupt his Flame Jets. He will Flame Jet twice before switching targets.
- After 30 seconds, Flame Leviathan will switch to following a different Siege Engine or Demolisher. At that time, the Siege Engine drivers may need to switch roles, one running away (using Steam Rush), the other following behind interrupting Flame Jets with Electroshock. This repeats every 30 seconds.
- Chopper Drivers, make sure to continue to drop Tar while avoiding damage (stay out of range of the boss). Use Sonic Horn to help damage the boss while Tar is on cooldown.
- Seige Engine and Demolisher Drivers - follow the tar path.
- Demolisher Drivers - Use Hurl Pyrite Barrel to damage the boss. Use Hurl Boulder to ignite the tar. Use Ram to damage the boss if the others are on cooldown.
- Siege Engine Gunners - keep doing what you did in Phase 1 (kill the choppers in the air and use Cannon on the boss).
- Demolisher Passengers - keep doing what you did in Phase 1 (pick up the pyrite barrels and use Cannon to damage the boss).
That is the jist of the fight. There is only one other thing to be aware of. The Flame Leviathan will gradually receive a stacking buff to his speed, making him harder to kite. To remove this buff, 2 people must be launched onto his back and use Overload Circuit. Here are the steps to do that:
- Demolisher Passengers make sure to pick up at least 5 Pyrite barrels first so the Demolisher Driver can fire them.
- Both Demolisher Passengers (a healer and dps) use Load into Catapult, which loads themselves into the catapults.
- The Demolisher Driver uses Throw Passenger which throws the passenger onto the boss. Make sure to aim at the Flame Leviathan and DON’T MISS or the passenger may die.
- The two passengers destroy a turret on the boss’ back.
- The Demolisher Driver uses Hurl Boulder to ignite the tar under Flame Leviathan.
- The passengers on the boss then use Overload Circuit to stun the boss, remove the speed buff, and give the boss a debuff that increases damage done to him by 50%.
- At that point, the Demolisher Drivers use Hurl Pyrite on the boss to deal massive damage.
- The two boss passengers will get thrown off the boss and will need to quickly jump on a Chopper before they die. The Chopper drivers need to speed over to them so they can pick them up. Once picked up, the Choppers should drive them over to the Demolishers so they can get back in their Demolisher seats and start picking up Pyrite again.
So, in summary for Phase 2 (Boss phase):
Siege Engine Drivers - Take turns kiting the boss and using Electroshock to interrupt Flame Jets.
Siege Engine Passengers - Shoot down the choppers in the air so they drop Pyrite barrels. Use Cannon on the boss.
Demolisher Drivers - Use Hurl Boulder to ignite tar. Use Hurl Pyrite to deal massive damage. Hurl the passenger when its called out to do that. Kite the boss if targeted.
Demolisher Passengers - Pick up the Pyrite. Get hurled onto the boss. Use Cannon.
Chopper Driver - Drop tar. Use Sonic Horn on the boss. Pick up passengers that get hurled.
The Chopper driver and Siege Engine Gunner roles seem to be the easiest ones to me. The Demolisher driver is probably the most complex. The others are all fairly involved as well. Good luck in Ulduar!

FL will target the demolishers too.
Thanks, I was wondering why he seemed to be targeting random people when we did him on Tuesday. Luckily we adjusted and he still went down pretty easily. I’ve updated the article.
I just found your site today and wanted to say it looks great. I’ll definitely be checking back for more Holy paladin goodness.
The biggest thing I can suggest with the Demolishers is to progressively add more pyrite, don’t just spam it until you run out. It’s a 10 second dot, and if you keep sending more pyrite without letting it tick you’re wasting most of the damage it provides. I like to start stacking up the pyrite debuff as soon as I launch my passenger, then keep it up as long as I can, and if the passenger can get me more pyrite I can keep a 10 stack up indefinitely, doing INSANE damage.
