Patch 3.3: Is the new Dungeon Finder unfair to Enchanters?
Happy Patch day, everyone! Patch 3.3 is here and I’m excited. I’m not sure when the servers will be back up, but I’ll probably be jumping into the ICC raid as soon as they do, if its not all bugged out. Otherwise, I’ll try my hand at the new 5-mans. I’ll also probably make sure to get in the daily BG quest as much as possible now that we’re getting 25 arena points each day for it! I’m excited about the new content and can’t wait to jump in there!
Let go find some dungeons!
The new Dungeon Finder tool coming with the patch is awesome. It allows you to queue up quickly for a random heroic dungeon each day, teleport straight there, get your Emblems of Frost, a good chunk of gold, and be back on your way. I’ll probably be running this every day too until I buy all my Emblem gear (add onto that the weekly raid quests and I have a lot to do!).
One feature of the Dungeon Finder tool is the new Disenchant option on the required Need/Greed roll system, which every group has to use. If somone selects Disenchant, they will roll against anyone who selects Greed. If the winner is the person who selected Disenchant, the item will be automatically disenchanted and the mats given to the winner. The Disenchant option is only available if there is an appropriate level enchanter in the group. A lot of enchanters are complaining that they are being forced to use their profession to give away their mats and being forced to lower mat prices. They’re saying that no other profession has to do things like that (we don’t normally roll on ore or herbs or skinning in a dungeon, and we’re certainly not forced to).
Is it really unfair?
I’ve always been an enchanter for my entire WoW career, and I’m okay with this change. I won’t say I’m thrilled about it, but it really doesn’t affect me much either way, and its a good thing in some ways. The reason is because Enchanting is not a gathering profession. Enchanters can get their own separate gathering profession if we want. The main value of Enchanting is not being able to disenchant items and gather enchanting mats. The main value is being able to enchant our gear and the gear of others. No one is forcing us to enchant everyone’s gear for free with the mats they get from this tool. Enchanters still have the monopoly on gear enchants and can charge whatever we want on those. We also still get our enchanter-only enchants. It would be unfair if herbalists or miners or skinners were forced to roll on their mats against everyone else because that’s the only thing they get from the profession. However, enchanters still have the ability to enchant things. This change isn’t taking away the main value of our profession at all.
Cheaper mats is a bad thing?
In fact, I would say that cheaper mats is a very good thing for enchanters. We’re the ones that use the mats the most. Even though I’m an enchanter, I still frequently buy my mats off the AH. This is especially true for new enchanters leveling up. Cheaper mats will make the demand for high-end enchants go up. It will make the demand for enchants in general go up. This means you can make more money doing what your profession is actually made for - performing enchants. And you can do your own enchants and those of your guild and friends for cheaper. So, I’m going to go ahead and say that this is a great change for enchanters.
What do you think?

I think its a great idea. I mostly PUG and if an enchanter is there, they usually say, “Need if you need, otherwise pass and I’ll DE.” I have no problem with this when everyone rolls on shards after the run. I can’t tell you how many times the enchanter just leaves and I get nothing. I would have rather greeded and vendor trashed the item. I don’t mean to sound greedy, but its true.
I agree this in theory sounds like a good system. I will have to wait and see how it works in reality to give a real opinion.
I agree with grapes I have been in that situation and it sucks. I am an enchanter so am interested to see how it works.
I think anything that devalues a professions earning potential is bad when it comes to enchanting. I mean seriously when was the last time an enchanter ever made any serious gold from enchanting an item for someone? The only realistic way of earning was to de items won/farmed then sell the mats. This will reduce those possible earnings from the ah to zero and take enchanting out of line with other professions’ earning potential. When did a skinner/miner/herbalist ever skin/mine/herb then roll on mats with any group? This shouldn’t be enforced against one profession whilst excluding other professions from the same idea. As for enchanters being able to enchant two rings as a profession bonus you will note that all the above gain similar bonuses (extra crit/extra stam or a free heal) so I cannot understand the logic as to why one particular profession is penalised in some way. I think this is probably the first thing i have read on this site that I haven’t agreed with overall but as a multi character player I think enchanting has a low profession/reward ratio as it is. Sorry to disagree but I think someone has to show the other side of the coin. All the best and keep up the usual good reading
The change is okay to me. I had an enchanter in a group last night that was trying to insist that he get ALL the de mats - greens included [was commanding us very obnoxiously not to roll DE because we 'had no use' for de mats].
I have an enchanter myself and if I’m going to have to share on my enchanter, others are going to share on theirs :P. It’ll definitely help non-enchanters get the mats for their enchants.
I agree with Kriaze, we don’t make money on the enchants, we make money on the mats for enchants. That market has now crashed completley with Infinite dust on my server selling for 50% of last weeks value. Thank you Blizz for fouling up how encahnters make money! Now i have to find a new income feed after i get rid of all the mats I have stored up and try to break even.
I totally agree with the new disenchant rules. It is wrong. For me the main problem is as a healer, not being able to need on cloth as a druid, and to see the needed epics being transformed into simple crystals with no option of going back. I also have an enchanter, and to experience the lower prices and less profit is also something I dont take kindly to.
I totaly agree with Kriaze, enchanters are getting screwed. We don’t roll on Leather and other crap that comes out of the instance why do we have to give our created items away? I don’t think my comments here will change anything but what I am seeing is exactly what I expected. Scrolls are not selling and idiot enchanters are giving their services away for free in hopes of tips (this one infuriates me). Folks who don’t have enchanting are loving it because they get free mats and just need some stupid moron to agree to enchant for them (yes after leveling the worst prof ever I am now reduced to mat whore for everyone else). I love the new looking for group but I think Enchanting took it in the pooper and I don’t think that will change.
Who the hell thought this one up?? Stupidest shittiest idea yet. Well put by someone earlier, does ANYONE get to reap the rewards of OTHER professions that you spent countless hours and gold leveling to max?? Do I get any blacksmithing mats….anything from skinning, gems, etc. inside dungeons? HELL NO. Thanks for screwing us again blizz. ALSO, you CANT pass any gear around if its been DISENCHANTED which is the option EVERYONE chooses now. THAT was a great idea, WHILE IT LASTED. Thanks blizz….thanks for nothing, once again.
i think is BS, if we have to do this, enchanter should be able to roll for people who mine skin or herb pick, 110% unfair
NO, you idiots, you cannot roll on skinnings and on minings and herbs, because these are GATHERING proffs, while yours isnt, you idiotic gold-whoring noobs. DE rolls with GREED, i HAVE and enchanter and i personally think its most fair. DE , as i said before, ROLLS WITH GREED, so GREED ALL YOU WANT, and DE for yourselves when you win it, and make money from enchants not selling mats for RIDICOULOS ammounts of gold on AH. get over it QQing psycho-players.
I resent your nerdrage =]
I’m interested massage therapy design in the past, and so i usually do not agree with the article author. Remorseful regarding my own english
