Epic 5-man Holy Paladin Gear
Patch 3.3 introduces a number of new epic-quality pieces of gear we can get without having to step foot into a raid. If you’re still trying to gear up your Holy Paladin for raiding or if you’re just not into raiding, check out the post below for a list of gear you can work toward without ever entering a raid instance.
Emblem of Frost Gear (ilevel 264)
Emblems of Frost are new to Patch 3.3. These drop from the 10 and 25-man versions of Icecrown Citadel and from Toravon the Icewatcher in the Vault of Archavon. You can also get two each day from your first random heroic dungeon using the new Looking For Group tool. This is 25-man ICC and 10-man Heroic ICC level gear.

- Gauntlets of Overexposure - 60 Emblems of Frost
- Lich Killer’s Lanyard - 60 Emblems of Frost
- Purified Lunar Dust - 60 Emblems of Frost
- Lightsworn Gloves - 60 Emblems of Frost
- Lightsworn Spaulders - 60 Emblems of Frost

Emblem of Triumph Gear (ilevel 232 and 245)
Blizzard has introduced the new Emblems of Triumph in Patch 3.2 with a corresponding gear vendors to spend your emblems on. These now drop from every heroic and raid boss in the game outside of Icecrown Citadel. The set pieces are ilvl 232 and can be bought from Aspirant Forudir near the Argent Tournament coliseum . The off-set pieces are ilvl 245 and can be bought from the emblem vendor in Dalaran. Also note that if you can get a Trophy of the Crusade from 25-man ToC you can use your Emblems of Triumph to buy the ilvl 245 set pieces.
- Libram of Veracity - 25 Emblems of Triumph
- Turalyon’s Spaulders of Conquest - 30 Emblems of Triumph
- Turalyon’s Gloves of Conquest - 30 Emblems of Triumph

- Pauldrons of the Cavalier - 45 Emblems of Triumph
- Turalyon’s Headpiece of Conquest - 50 Emblems of Triumph

- Heaume of the Restless Watch - 75 Emblems of Triumph
Also note that there are two different shoulders and helms you can buy with Emblems of Triumph. Since the Tier 9 2-piece set bonus is quite crappy, you might just want to wait to save up your emblems for the better off-set head and shoulders.
Emblem of Conquest Gear (ilevel 226)
The Emblem of Conquest gear has been in the game since Patch 3.1, but it previously was only accessible to those who ran 25-man Ulduar. These emblems no longer drop at all in Patch 3.3, but you can trade in your Emblems of Triumph for them. This is item level 226 gear (25-man Ulduar level).

Emblem of Valor Gear (ilvl 213)
If you don’t want to save up your Emblems of Conquest or you’ve already bought everything, you can convert them into Valor emblems and purchase the following pieces (25-man Naxx level):
- Cloak of Kea Feathers - 25 Emblems of Valor

- Libram of Renewal - 15 Emblems of Heroism
- Lattice Choker of Light - 25 Emblems of Heroism

- Used to purchase Heroes’ Redemption Gloves
- Chestguard of the Lost Conqueror - 80 Emblems of Heroism
- Used to purchase Heroes’ Redemption Tunic
Icecrown Citadel Gear
The three new 5-man dungeons in Icecrown Citadel all drop very good epic level gear, even in normal mode. The normal dungeons drop ilvl 219 gear (10-man Ulduar level). The heroic dungeons drop ilvl 232 gear (10-man ToC level).

Trial of the Champion Gear
The 5-man dungeon in the Argent Coliseum also gives non-raiders access to a number of epic pieces of gear. The heroic version drops 3 pieces of item level 219 (10-man Ulduar level) gear each run. The normal version drops 3 pieces of item level 200 (10-man Naxxramas level) gear each run.
Heroic (ilevel 219)
- Symbol of Redemption
- Gauntlets of Revelation
- Legplates of the Argent Armistice
- Trueheart Girdle
- Mariel’s Sorrow
Normal (ilevel 200)
Vendor Gear
As a Holy Paladin, the Argent Crusade should be the first reputation you raise to exalted so you can get access to a (practically) free epic helm and ring. If you can raise your Kirin Tor reputation to exalted you can get discounts on some very nice (but expensive) epic rings that also serve as a 2nd hearthstone.
- Helm of Purified Thoughts - Exalted with the Argent Crusade (ilvl 200)
- Signet of Hopeful Light - Exalted with the Argent Crusade (ilvl 200)
- Signet of the Kirin Tor - 6800 gold at Exalted with Kirin Tor (ilvl 200)
- Inscribed Signet of the Kirin Tor - another 1000 gold (ilvl 213)
- Etched Signet of the Kirin Tor - yet another 1000 gold (ilvl 226)
- Runed Signet of the Kirin Tor - one more 1000 gold (ilvl 251)
Crafted Gear
Now that Emblems of Triumph are in abundance, Crusader Orbs should also be in abundance. You can buy them from the Triumph vendor in Dalaran for 15 Emblems of Triumph or find them on the Auction House. With those Crusader Orbs, and a few other mats, you can make some very nice ilvl 245 (Toc 25-man) gear. All you have to do is gather the mats and find someone on your server who has won the recipe from 25-man ToC. So, get started farming those Emblems of Triumph and buying your Crusader Orbs! You can find the items and their mat requirements below.
- Sunforged Bracers - Blacksmithing - 8 Titansteel Bars, 12 Eternal Lifes, 4 Crusader Orbs
- Sunforged Breastplate - Blacksmithing - 10 Titansteel Bars, 20 Eternal Lifes, 8 Crusader Orbs
Other Heroic Dungeons (ilevel 200)
The rest of the epic gear you can get outside of raids are from the last bosses of each heroic 5-man dungeon. This is item level 200 (10-man Naxx level) gear.
- Annhylde’s Ring - Heroic Utgarde Keep
- War Mace of Unrequited Love - Heroic Nexus
- Flamebeard’s Bracers - Heroic Azjol-Nerub
- Band of Guile - Heroic Culling of Stratholme
- Sjonnir’s Girdle - Heroic Halls of Stone
- Leggings of Protective Auras - Heroic Oculus
Have fun getting epic-ed out!

Just a slight correction, I ran a heroic last night (Nexus) and Conquest badges drop off of every boss, not just the final.
great resource, thank you.
You forgot in your list http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44283
Signet of Hopeful Light.
Which you also have access to when you are exalted with the Argent Crusade.
I found that some PvP gear can be very helpful too - esp. the ones purchased without arena points (only honor points where you can get by simply going into WG and messing around). The Libram is very helpful for FoL and should is not bad either.
Just an add
I think it would be much more efficient if you would add a few words about which items are really worth getting and which should be dumped:).
(I am mostly referring to the Triumph Gear)
Well, if you’re only getting gear from 5-mans than the Triumph gear is the best gear you’re going to get. If you’re also getting gear from raids you’ll need to compare what you have with the piece you could buy. If you already have a piece that’s the same item level then I wouldn’t buy the equivalent Triumph gear in most cases. Save up those badges for a piece that fills another spot where you’re lacking in quality. Also, you’d probably be better off saving up your emblems for the better off-set shoulders and helm since the 2-piece Tier 9 set bonus is so bad.
But in general, you’ll want a piece without Mp5 rather than one with Mp5. Also, a piece with less stamina will give you more points for other more useful stats.
Besides that, you’ll want to balance out your stats and focus on your weak areas. So, if you’re running out of mana go with a piece with more intellect (or maybe crit or Mp5). If people are dying from burst damage, get more haste. If you just need more throughput get more haste, spell power and crit. If you already have a lot of pieces with just haste, then get some crit or vice-versa.
None of the Triumph gear above is itemized badly. If you have two pieces to compare, take the one that helps you personally the most or just keep yours and save your badges for something that’s a more obvious upgrade. If you’re really fancy, you could keep both and use whichever one is more appropriate for the situation (long fights - use intellect, lots of AoE - use spell power, lots of burst - use haste, etc).
Just wanted to say thanks for this list and all the other guides on your site a great help.
Big thumbs up to you.
Well, ive got 3/5 turalyon trough already(got the third yesterday) going to get part 4 for triumph emblems. Got the ring (heartmender circle) and the trinket. Cant find any good feet(exept the ones from coralon - which are pvp). Looking forward to getting the 245-head.
Hadnt got anything good fron totc-10, cant get into 25 or totgt 10 (need the achivment from it:).
Could you tell me please what trinket would be better for me - Binding light or tears of the vanquished?
Tears of the Vanquished will give you over 1300 mana and over 70mp5 (and a tiny bit of crit and spell power).
The 232 version of Binding Light can give you 528 spell power for a few seconds a couple times per fight and it gives 57 Mp5 (obviously, the 245 version is better).
Its a toss up between the large but unreliable spell power gain and about 1300 mana and 10 to 20 Mp5. If you want more mana, go with Tears of the Vanquished. Otherwise, go for Binding Light and use it during enrages. If you mostly use Holy Light, Tears is probably better since the extra spell power will just be overheal anyway and you’ll need the mana.
ive got around 25 thousand mana and very rarely lost even 2/3 of it(with tears). But the last time with anub-arak i even went oom(with binding light)
my stats are(without trinket)
int - 1322, mp5 - 332, crit - 35.88%, haste - 300
Thanks for the update! Very helpful. For fellow Hordies most of the emblem of triumph gear has different names, just be sure to follow the “equivalent” link on wowhead, e.g. Turalyon’s == Liadrin’s.
i am not sure about replacing my tears ax with the new emblem one.
Which of them would help me save more mana? And which is better on the whole?
Curious, why don’t you list Shriveled Heart in the heroic icc 5 man loot? I’d take it over my current Protective Barricade of the Light. Am I missing something? Thanks.
Paladins can’t use off-hands, only shields.
Why is it so hard to get shields and weapons using emblems? Two months after hitting 80 I was still running around with an ilevel 159 shield b/c I didn’t want to downgrade emblems for Protective Barricade…
Really? http://www.wowhead.com/?items&filter=sl=23:22;minle=219;ub=2;cr=23;crs=1;crv=0
But… I see now I’d be giving up an awful lot of int (vs. Protector of Frigid Souls + int enchant) just for that delicious haste.
A nice shield drops from last boss in POS. After farming for 7 times it dropped for me but i lost the roll to the pally tank. Note to self….no more mister nice guy when it comes to loot in randoms. I ended up downgrading emblems for protective barrier. And have yet seen the shield drop again. I would like to see a new emblem shield soon.
oops forgot to stae it is in POS normal
I ran Normal PoS the first time and the last boss dropped the shield. Then I ran it again and it dropped again! Then my fellow guildie shaman healer ran it 9 times, never dropped… That seems to be the only decent shield for Holy Pallies tho.
A request for some quick advice:
My main spec is Protection and second-spec is Holy. I have plenty of Emblems of Triumph to revamp my whole heal set which is currently a mix of 200-232 and T8 (2pc) gear. I very rarely use this spec, so I’m not under the same pressure for BIS that a full-time Holy paladin would suffer. I understand that the T9 (232) 2pc bonus for the set is “meh”, but is the 4pc worth any better? Understand any trophy drops I get in the foreseeable future would go to my main spec, so upgrading to the 245 EoT gear is not realistic.
With that explanation, would you recommend going for the T9 (232) 4pc bonus or break it by getting the 245 helm and shoulders? Should I avoid the better iLevel items if they significantly lower haste?
Again, the Holy spec is incidental to my normal play routine, but I have the emblems and don’t want to gimp my flexibility in the event I need to swap to healing. I would appreciate the input of full-time Holy paladins in this regard.
I would go for the 245 gear Andharvo. The stats are quite a bit higher (especially Intellect and Spell Power) and the 4-piece bonus really isn’t that useful, especially if you have trouble keeping the HoT up 100% of the time. Also, this way you can upgrade any of those 4 pieces to a 251 or higher off-set piece if it drops without having to worry about breaking the set and you still get the stat bonuses.
Thanks for the advice and quick reply. All the time I’ve spent vacillating on how best to spend my EoTs for second spec means I’ll be effectively upgrading the entire set in one fell swoop. I think I’ll put any leftovers into orbs for the crafted 245 tanking gear I can make for the other (MT) tank in my guild. Thanks again!

Paladins can’t use off-hands, only shields.”
idk, but last I checked they can.
Hmm, interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever worn an off-hand item on my paladin. Off-hand items are usually not itemized well for a Holy Paladin, but there are exceptions. Also, off-hand items can’t be enchanted, so they’re usually never better than a shield.
I’ll add that item to the list, though. Thanks.
Thanks for all the useful information. I read your blog a lot for good tips.
I notice that you only list 3 of the 5 Lightsworn set pieces. Is that because you think the other two aren’t worth obtaining?
No… I’m not sure why they’re not listed, lol. Thanks for the catch.
Why isn’t Seethe listed? Since mp5 isn’t real important for pallys i’d think it’d be BiS pre raid?
i just ran ToC 5 mona non heroic and Signet of Purity dropped midway. Thought I would mention it as an additional 200 lvl item for ToC.
Now my issue is whether to keep it or keep Annhylde’s Ring…Haste or Crit…hmmm…seem to recall reading and Excellent discussion on this…hmmm
LOVE the site - This page is my Gear shopping list!
Much appreciated

I’m not sure exactly why but this weblog is loading extremely slow for me. Is anyone else having this problem or is it a issue on my end? I’ll check back later on and see if the problem still exists.
